CHIKA -- "Be Free" (Live)

In this video Black queer rapper Chika tackles issues like representation, fear, and electoral politics. Challenging the election of Donald Trump, and hoping that the 2016 election will “awaken us.” Chika expresses the need to be free. Using a mixed medium that combines both spoken word and singing, Chika uses hip-hop sample be free to refuse the tearing down that comes with being poor, black, muslim, and gay. In her rap she uses intersectionality and faith to Mr. Trump directly. Chika’s lyrics embody radicalism in their cry for the removal of the chains tied with being Black queer woman in the U.S.
